The Climb (Pastel)

Inspired by a secluded staircase hidden within Glasgow's Botanic Gardens, this pastel explores the relationship between landscape and emotion.

Working in soft pastel, I wanted to capture more than the physical landscape. The staircase became a symbol of resilience and renewal—a reminder that even when the path ahead feels steep, light can still be found beyond the next step.

While inspired by a real place in Glasgow's West End, the painting invites each viewer to discover their own meaning within the journey.

Created in professional soft pastel on archival Pastelmat, layers of richly pigmented pastel create soft transitions of light and colour while preserving the textures.
