About the Artist

There is a quietness to the Scottish landscape that can only truly be understood by standing within it.

The stillness of a loch before dawn. The shifting colours of the sea beneath an approaching storm. The brief warmth of sunlight breaking through heavy clouds before disappearing again. These fleeting moments are the inspiration behind every painting Claire McKenzie-Sime creates.

Working from her studio in Scotland, Claire paints contemporary landscapes that celebrate atmosphere, light and a profound sense of place. Rather than documenting a location with photographic precision, she seeks to capture the emotion of experiencing it—the feeling of solitude on an empty shoreline, the calm found beside still water, and the ever-changing relationship between land, sky and sea.

Each original painting is created using professional oil paints and archival materials through multiple layers, allowing colour, texture and light to develop gradually. This slow, considered process reflects the landscapes themselves: timeless, resilient and quietly powerful.

Although Claire has spent much of her professional life helping people through her work as an Occupational Therapist, painting has always been the thread running alongside it. Today, she brings the same patience, observation and attention to detail to her art, creating paintings that invite the viewer to pause, reflect and reconnect with nature.

Inspired by Scotland's dramatic coastlines, tranquil lochs and expansive skies, her work is held in private collections and is increasingly sought by collectors who value authentic, original landscape painting.

Claire believes that a painting should offer more than a beautiful view. It should preserve a moment that can never be repeated and bring a lasting sense of peace to the place it is hung.

Every painting is an invitation to experience the beauty, light and stillness of Scotland—wherever in the world you may be.
