Through the Woods (Pastel)

Just a short walk from my home in Glasgow lies a small woodland that changes dramatically with the seasons. In autumn, the forest floor becomes a rich tapestry of copper and ochre, while the scent of pine lingers in the cool air and the trees seem to lean gently towards the winding path.

This painting was inspired by countless walks through these familiar woods. Rather than capturing a single moment, I wanted to preserve the quiet comfort of returning to a place that feels both familiar and ever-changing—a landscape shaped as much by memory as by nature itself.

Created in professional soft pastel on archival Pastelmat, layers of richly pigmented pastel create soft transitions of light and colour while preserving the textures of bark, fallen leaves and woodland shadows.
