Through the Dunes
Hidden beyond the shelter of the dunes lies a stretch of coastline that has remained woven into my memory since childhood. This was the beach where long summer days seemed endless—running barefoot through the sand, paddling in the sea with my brother, and returning home sunburnt and tired as the light faded over the horizon.
Years later, I still find myself drawn back to this place. While the landscape has changed very little, the memories have softened with time. Rather than painting a specific moment, I wanted to capture the feeling of arriving at the shoreline after winding through the dunes—the first glimpse of the sea, the warmth of the evening light, and the quiet anticipation of what lies beyond.
Created in professional soft pastel on archival Pastelmat, the layered pigments allow the delicate colours of the sand, grasses and sky to retain their vibrancy for generations.
I hope this painting offers the viewer the same sense of peace, nostalgia and quiet wonder that I experience every time I return.
